Mekina excels at drinking coffee in the morning + champagne at night, wearing blue, busting a move on the dance floor... and oh, capturing genuine moments for fun couples in love. Based in the greater NYC area Mekina loves traveling home to TX + NC and around the world whenever she gets a chance.
I'm Mekina, an East Coast wedding photographer and educator who loves to create and never stops thinking of new ideas. Captivated by new nick names, silly competition and an unwavering craving for Dominos Hawaiian pizza. Keep on scrollin' to see what else we might have in common. :)
The couples who came up with unique wedding ideas in that difficult time of COVID continue to wow me! Katie + Dane ensured everyone involved stayed safe even as they celebrated their love and union. Minimonies are one of those ideas gaining popularity among couples these days, and rightly so! These mini weddings give you the beautiful experience of a traditional one on your original date and also leave you excited to start your marriage and look toward the future. The best part of minimonies is that they are perfect during the COVID pandemic when a large gathering can be legally penalized and also put everyone’s health at risk. Katie and Dan also followed suit and decided to get married in a minimony in New York city. It was such an intimate and beautiful event, and I loved photographing every bit of it.
The NYC Minimony
Katie and Dan started dating in 2018, just a week before Katie’s grandmother passed away. Katie was very close to her, and the loss had an impact on her. Katie said that most guys might have run away in such a situation, but Dan supported her, and they took their relationship really slow. After spending some good time together, Katie and Dan got engaged at the Trevi Fountain in Rome and decided to get married within a few months. The wedding, however, got postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak, and they had to reschedule their traditional wedding. Katie and Dan decided to go ahead and tie the knot and opted for a minimony!
For their minimony, Katie and Dan dressed up in their complete wedding attire. They opted to keep it small with one Matron of Honor and one Best Man. It was truly perfect! Katie and Dan’s day really turned into a pretty styled shoot.
Before her wedding, Katie told me that she had seen my images of a Boathouse wedding and fell in love with them. That was when she decided to book us. Thank you so much, Katie! I loved being your wedding photographer and wish you and Dan a happy forever!!
Thank you Katie + Dan for allowing me to capture your stunning day! It was such a joy capturing the happiness you two bring to your friends, family and of course to one another!
